American Airlines Flight 63, which took off in Paris and was bound for Miami, is re-routed to Boston after passenger Richard Reid, a British-born Muslim, was prevented from igniting explosives that he had hidden in his hiking shoes. Reid is subsequently tried in federal court in Boston, found guilty, and sentenced to life in prison.
